At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota, we believe that helping our members shop for high-quality medical services and affordable prescription drugs is critical to keeping health care costs sustainable.

Earlier this year, we launched our new Care Cost Estimator tool, which allows members to compare prices for many services and procedures among all in-network providers. In addition, the Drug Cost Estimator tool – available through the Blue Cross mobile app – helps members understand which medications are covered and if more affordable alternatives are available.

Now, we’re collaborating with Amazon to help members save time and money on their prescription drugs.

A modernized shopping experience

Most people are very familiar with Amazon.com, which is known for being easy to use, efficient and effective at finding high-quality retail items at the lowest cost. This same online shopping experience is now available for prescription medications.

Similar to other prescription drug delivery services, Amazon Pharmacy offers free shipping for medications that can be delivered directly to your home in a few days. For eligible Blue Cross members, this service is integrated with MedsYourWay – a discount program that enables shoppers to apply coupons at checkout.

The MedsYourWay discount card is seamlessly built into the online shopping experience, automatically applying cost savings for both brand name and generic medicines. Unlike other Rx coupon cards, your insurance copay and MedsYourWay discount both count toward your deductible, which can have a big impact on your total out-of-pocket costs.

“Not only does Amazon Pharmacy offer an online shopping experience that Blue Cross members are familiar with, it also provides added visibility into the lowest cost options according to health plan details and applies discounts to help ensure members are getting the best price available,” says Jennifer Krause, pharmacy operations manager at Blue Cross.

Who is eligible?

As of April 1, 2022, all commercial health plan members with pharmacy benefits through Blue Cross have access to Amazon Pharmacy and the MedsYourWay discount program.

If you get your health insurance through your employer or the individual marketplace and that coverage includes pharmacy benefits, you are now eligible for this added benefit.
