Forster’s #1 rule for life: Use it or lose it
October 3, 2018At 80, Forster Davis is still very much in the game. Well, maybe not in the game exactly, but he’s definitely calling it. “I’ve been reffing for half my age,” he says, almost daring us to do the math. “A game a day keeps the doctor away.”
So instead of slowing down in his golden years, Forster keeps pushing himself to pick up the pace. “The kids hustle which makes me hustle,” he laughs. “Yeah, I have pain. But you work through it.”
“A game a day keeps the doctor away.”
With his game-winning smile and sometimes out-of-bounds sense of humor, Forster bluntly gives us his reasons for why reffing is his thing. “Why does anyone do anything? Because it’s fun. Plus, I hate the treadmill.”
When he’s not lacing up his soccer cleats and chasing players up and down a field, Forster likes to “putz around with the garden and bird feeders.”
He also holds a part-time job as a merchandise re-setter. “I guess I do it just to confuse the shopper.”
An inspiration for everyone
After getting to know Forster, it came as no surprise when he told us he drives a bright yellow Scion XB with soccer balls on the side and a surfboard on the roof. “I drive it because it’s unique like me. I think it’s the only yellow car in town.”
Through his actions alone, Forster is an inspiration to us all. When asked what he might say to younger people to inspire them to live a better life, he dips into his jar of one-liners and plainly says, “Look, life has options. Use it or lose it.”

Very inspiring! I love this campaign!
Forster officiated many of my son's games. His example was a big part of what inspired me to become a referee. He's a great guy.
