Free Admission Day at Minnesota History Center on Saturday, December 9
November 22, 2023As our 90th year celebration draws to a close, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota is inviting the public to join us for Free Admission Day at the Minnesota History Center on Saturday, December 9.
Earlier this year, the discovery of two company time capsules buried decades ago at our flagship building, commonly referred to as the Main Building, was an exciting highlight of our 90th year celebration. Now, we’re offering community members a unique opportunity to see some of these historic artifacts up close and in person.
“For generations of Minnesotans, Blue Cross has been synonymous with dependable health coverage,” said Dana Erickson, president and CEO at Blue Cross. “Through the Minnesota Historical Society’s thoughtful approach to storytelling and preservation, Blue Cross is very excited for this special opportunity to show our appreciation to the community and share our story at the Minnesota History Center.”
The Free Admission Day includes access to all History Center exhibits, including the Life & Art of Charles M. Schulz, notable Minnesotan and creator of the Peanuts comic strip, and Reframing Our Stories, an exhibit dedicated to viewing Native Minnesotans’ stories through their own words, experiences and perspectives. Additionally, two temporary displays of Blue Cross time capsule contents will be available for viewing in the first-floor rotunda.
“We are fortunate that Blue Cross employees had the forethought to save these documents decades ago,” said Jennifer Pogatchnik, chief development officer at the Minnesota Historical Society. “MNHS is pleased to invite the public to learn about Blue Cross history–and all Minnesota History–through a free admission day December 9.”
Among the artifacts on display will be various photographs, marketing materials, and more. The physical time capsule boxes will also be on display, showing the forethought our predecessors put into the preservation of these materials.
The Blue Cross Free Admission Day will take place between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. For those unable to attend, the History Center will have the Blue Cross time capsule materials available for viewing in the first-floor rotunda from December 6 through December 11.
We’re proud to team up with the Minnesota Historical Society to offer this experience and to share how history has the power to shape, inspire and inform both the present and the future.
