IN PHOTOS: Blue Cross opens outdoor fitness courts in two Minnesota Communities
October 25, 2024
At Blue Cross, paving the way for everyone to achieve their healthiest life isn't just a mission statement: it's a mission. Creating opportunities that help make it a reality is crucial, and that's why we are proud to have teamed up with the National Fitness Campaign to recently help open two new fitness courts for Minnesotans to use. Located on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Campus and in Moose Lake Township the fitness courts are a free resource for people of all abilities to work out in an accessible and functional way. Fitness courts offer a complete seven-minute, seven-movement workout that can be scaled up or down to fit one's needs and improve health.
The grand openings follow the first of ten courts which opened in Willmar during summer 2023, and a second at Scenic Heights Park in Shakopee during summer 2024.
Around 80 percent of our health is determined by factors outside of the doctor's office. These factors are called 'social determinants of health' — where we live, work, play and age through life — and they are not the same for everyone. Access to workout equipment can vary depending on these factors, with certain people facing more barriers to health and wellness opportunities than others. Fitness courts remove those barriers, and Blue Cross is proud to continue bringing its mission to life with six more courts coming to communities throughout the state in the future.
