Open Streets is back with inaugural Winter Open Streets at HolidazzleDecember 14, 2017
The snow is officially here, making it time to celebrate winter in Minnesota. December is a month filled with traditions for many and perhaps your family could start a new one this year. While known for being a great summer outing, Open Streets will host its first winter event this Saturday. Winter Open Streets at Holidazzle is presented by Our Streets Minneapolis, the City of Minneapolis, and the Minneapolis Downtown Council, with support from the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross.
New event, new route, new street open for family fun
The Winter Open Streets will take place in a new location, along the newly reopened Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis. The one-mile route— perfect for walking, biking or rolling in the heart of downtown— will be full of opportunities to explore the new Nicollet. The renovation includes nearly 250 new trees, new LED lighting and the largest public art display outside of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.
With food, local businesses, and family fun all along the route, Winter Open Streets at Holidazzle will be an occasion you won’t want to miss.
“It’s great to see Open Streets expand to the winter season,” said Janelle Waldock, vice president of community health and health equity at Blue Cross. “I hope it inspires people to bundle up and use streets and sidewalks all year round, both for getting around and for getting their daily physical activity.”
